What is Air Con Servicing for a Vehicle?

An air con service is when a mechanic removes the old gas for a vehicle’s air con system and replaces it with new gas. During the process, the air con system will also be checked for any other problems such as leaks, and any moisture will be cleared out. There will also be new lubricant placed on the system.

How Much is an Air Con Service? And How Often is it Supposed to be Done?

Check out our booking system for prices and to book in, depending on the make and model of the vehicle, and what (if any) issues are found to be rectified during the service. An air con service for a vehicle is recommended to be done every 2 years.

What Happens During an Air Con Service?

During a service of a vehicle’s air con system, the following things are done;
1

Gas Removal

The old gas (refrigerant), is removed using a specialised vacuum pump.

2

Vacuum and Leak Test

The system is tested for holes, leaks, cracks etc. in the hoses and seals of the system.

3

Recharge

Fresh, new gas (refrigerant), and lubricating oil are put into the system at correct manufacturer levels.

4

Anti-Bacterial Clean (De-Bug)

An antibacterial treatment is applied to clear out any mould, dust and bad smells from the vents.

    FAQs about our Air Con Repair and Regas Service

    We can't answer every question on here as each case is different, but hopefully some of the information below will help. If not call us or email us.
    Will an Air Con Service Fix Any Air Con Issues?

    Unfortunately, not all issues with a vehicle’s air con system can be fixed during a routine air con service. The vehicle might need more time in the garage for further inspections as to why it’s air con system is not working. However, if the system is serviced and maintained as regularly as recommended, this will not be the case or an issue.

    How Long Does an Air Con Service Take?

    If no leaks are found, or any other issues that need sorting, then we can book you in for a Air con Regas and basic repair, the time depends on each car. If some issues are found however, and there are parts of the system to be replaced or repaired then this could take a bit longer. If problems are not repairable during a routine air con service for the air con system, then the vehicle may need to be in a garage longer for diagnosing the issue and then days for the issue to be repaired, as not all air con issues can be repaired under the bonnet and may require going under the dashboard of a vehicle.

    Why is an Air Con Service Important?

    Air con is important in a vehicle, not just for keeping us cool in hot weather, but it also is used to clear a vehicle’s windows when they have misted up, allowing us to see when we drive. Below is a list of reasons as to why an air con service is important for a vehicle;

    • Restoring cool airflow during hot weather days.
    • Clears windows faster during damper weather conditions.
    • Regular lubrication stops parts like the compressor from seizing up causing costly damage.
    • By getting rid of moisture build up, it stops bacteria from growing and causing any unpleasant smells from the vents.
